Miles- 9 months old!

Age 9 months

Weight and Length   Approximately 19.5 lbs

Clothing size  9-12 months, or 6-12. 

Hair Light brown, still continuing to get blonder.  

Teeth Two!  Both bottom teeth are coming in!  The first one came in on October 7th- the 2nd was only about a week behind the first! 

Sleeping  Miles still sleeps from 7:30-8:00 pm until around 7:15 am with usually a dream feed at 11 and then 1 wake up around 5-6 am. He probably could sleep through the dream feed so we might start to wean that this month.  

Eating  Miles continues to like solid foods. He has been trying everything we eat if it is soft enough.  He recently even tried crab cakes!  He has reduced his milk intake quite a bit while mommy is at work- down to 5-8 oz during my typical work day.  He continues to grow well and eat solids so we are just letting him guide us. He now nurses about every 4 hours during the day. 

Movement  Right around 9 months he started scooting well.  He tries to crawl but can't get his right leg around behind him so often pivots or scoots on his right knee off to the side, or scoots on his bottom.  He is wanting to pull up with help all of the time! 

Milestones  The teeth are a big deal! Also, we have put up a baby gate- with all of the scooting- we feel pretty sure he will be crawling soon! 

Favorite toys/activities  He loves to mimic his siblings and play with them when he can! He also likes listening to singing and music in general, and just went to his first music class this month and loved it! 

Dislikes  Teething! And colds. Miles has a bad cold with a little fever currently! Poor buddy! 

Words and sounds  Still no distinct words/sounds but loves to "talk" to us. 

What we love   Smiles and snuggles.  

What we don’t love Mommy is hoping to get Miles sleeping all the way through the night in the next month or two!

Miles- 8 months old!

Age 8 months

Weight and Length   Approximately 17.5 lbs

Clothing size  Still wearing mostly 9-12 months, or 6-12. 

Hair Light brown, still lightening up each month. 

Teeth  None yet, but we think he is teething. 

Sleeping  Miles still sleeps from 7:30-8:00 pm until around 7:15 am with usually a dream feed at 11 and then 1 wake up around 5-6 am. Sleeps well in a regular sleep sack. Loves to sleep on his tummy now! 

Eating  Miles has started becoming more interested in solid foods than bottles. This month he decreased his milk intake on days Mommy works from 12 oz to 7-8 oz many days.  When Mommy is home, he nurses every 3-4 hours. He has started eating small bites of chicken and spaghetti  He also is pretty happy to try most anything we are eating! He still loves Bamba! 

Movement  Miles is trying to move. He can't crawl yet but he is practicing small scoots and trying to figure how to pull up.  He routinely rolls to his belly to sleep.  

Milestones  Miles loves to eat real food-and is drinking way less milk. He is enjoying learning to be a big boy! 

Favorite toys/activities  He continues to love to play in the bath. He had fun swimming in the pool in GR this month. He still really loves his learning walker and also has started to like to handle toys. 

Dislikes  He is pretty chill unless hungry or sleepy! 

Words and sounds   Starting to get more vocal- he loves to scream for fun at times. 

What we love   The way he loves his siblings. 

What we don’t love  Occasional fussiness, but this is getting much better! 

What we’re looking forward to next month More movement and possibly some teeth? (maybe i'm not looking forward to this!)

Miles- 7 months old!

Age 7 months

Weight and Length   He seems to keep growing! 

Clothing size  Wearing mostly 9-12 months, or 6-12. 

Hair Dark blonde! Wondering if it will get as light as his siblings! It is similar to Kate's at this age. 

Teeth  None yet, but is chewing on everything! 

Sleeping  Miles sleeps from 7:30-8:00 pm until around 7:15 am with usually a dream feed at 11 and then 1 wake up around 5-6 am. Sleeps well in a regular sleep sack. 

Eating  Miles nurses every 2.5-3 hours but lately really seems more interested in solid foods! He has loved chewing on whole foods and so far doesn't love purees. HE LOVED salmon bits and risotto- salmon and broccoli may be his favorite foods so far.  He has tried steamed broccoli, sweet potato, eggs and beans. He likes just about anything in his fresh food teether- corn, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, cantaloupe, eggs, sweet potato. He has been a bit more willing to try sweet potato and prune puree (thank goodness as this helps with his new found constipation from eating).  He basically wants whatever we have.  He also loves BAMBA and likes baby mum mums too. 

Movement  Miles is happiest sitting up and much more stable.  We still protect him from potential falls with pillows due to the hard floors.  He is starting to try to pull up on his crib and activity cube. He had to lower the crib.  Still not regularly rolling back to front but rolls about 85% of the way while sleeping (just can't get that arm out). I bet the baby gates will be going up pretty soon!

Milestones  Miles loves to eat real food- that is for sure his biggest milestone! 

Favorite toys/activities  He really likes to sit on the floor and play with his learning walker and activity cube.  He is still pretty content in his play nest and also in the jumper. He is also loving splashing in the bath these days. 

Dislikes  Being hungry, or tired, otherwise he is a pretty happy baby. 

Words and sounds   Still loves to babble when he is in the mood- but nothing specific yet. 

What we love   All the smiles and giggles- he likes to be tickled! 

What we don’t love  Distracted nursing and fussiness when we miss naps- otherwise he is mostly a charmer. 

What we’re looking forward to next month More movement and more sounds!!!

Miles- 6 months old!

Age 6 months

Weight & Length  16 lbs 7 oz (27.4%), 26.75 inches (53%)

Clothing size  Starting to wear mostly 6-12, though still fits into a few 3-6 month outfits

Hair Still getting a bit lighter by the day.

Teeth  None yet! 

Sleeping  Miles sleeps from 7:30-8:00 pm until around 7:15 am with usually 1 wake up around 5 am. We stopped using his hands up swaddles sleep sac just after 5 months, and he transitioned easily over 2-3 days.  (Starting with just one arm out, then both).  

Eating  Miles nurses every 2.5 hours but also has started solid foods! He likes mango, and mum mums the best but has also had sweet potato, carrots, prunes. 

Movement  Miles loves to sit up.  We have mostly hard floors with only a few rugs so he isn't playing on the floor as much as his siblings did at this age on carpet in Ann Arbor.   He does roll front to back and Jackson saw him roll back to front once!  We can't wait to watch him figure out how to keep moving! 

Milestones  Miles started sitting up at 5.5 months. He still will tip over at times, but is doing a great job learning to sit without support.   He also started a few solid foods 1 week before he turned 6 months. His first food was sweet potato! 

Favorite toys/activities  He continues to love his jumper.  He loves sitting in his play nest which is a blow up toy that he can sit and play in. It protects him when he tips over and is a great and safe place to play!  He loves his teether, winkle and a teether toy that has a soccer ball on it. He also enjoys Sophie the giraffe. 

Dislikes  Being hungry, or tired, otherwise he is a pretty happy baby. Oh and cold water- he doesn't have any interest in swimming in the bay but loves the bath!!

Words & sounds   He really is into babbling and squealing when he is in the mood. 

What we love   Everything! 6 months is such a fun age. Snuggling him and watching him smile back at us is the best!

What we don’t love  Not much to complain about- he's pretty sweet!

What we’re looking forward to next month Trying more foods, sitting even better and mommy and daddy seeing him rolling back to front (so far only Jackson has seen this!).

 

Miles- 5 months old!

Age 5 months

Weight & Length Miles weighs around 15 lbs, which is roughly around the 22% for age. 

Clothing size 3-6 months clothes, but also uses some 6-9 month clothes- seems to be outgrowing things in length!!

Hair  His light brown hair is getting blonder each day! 

Teeth Zero, hoping we still have a few more months to wait! 

Sleeping  Miles is a good sleeper. He sleeps from around 8 until 7 am or so. I wake him at 10:30 pm or so for a dream feed, and he wakes up again between 4-5 am.  He usually is happy to wake up on his own slowly and coo in his crib just before 7 am.  He takes naps around 9, 12-1, and another nap mid afternoon and before dinner (short cat nap). Thinking he will be ready to go to three good naps a day soon. 

Eating  Miles continues to nurse every 2.5 hours or so and at least 1 dream feed at night.   This last few weeks he has been stretching a bit longer between feeds in the AM but then cluster feeds at night. 

Movement   Miles has continued to roll front to back but not yet the other way- we can tell he is close though! Just before 5 months he started to sit for a few seconds unsupported- taking after Jackson- he is practicing everyday and we look forward to seeing him sit independently soon! 

Milestones  Miles found his toes this month.  He also is starting to sit well. 

Favorite toys/activities     He loves sophie the giraffe, his fuzzy bunny rattle, and the spinning toy that we use when he is sitting up.  He continues to love the bouncer.  He also has started to like to look at and touch pages when we read him stories.  

Dislikes   Miles is pretty easy going these days. He is a very distracted nurser this month and sometimes has to be tricked into eating while sleeping.  He seems to want to be involved in whatever his siblings are doing instead of eating! 

Words & sounds   Miles is starting to chat more with cooing at times.  He also has started to really giggle a lot which is so cute! 

What we love   Miles has a big smile just like his brother and sister. Everyone he meets remarks about how happy he is. 

What we don’t love  Mommy is looking forward to sleeping through the night again in the next few months, but he's worth it!   

What we’re looking forward to next month   Sitting up!!

Miles- 4 months

Age 4 months

Weight & Length  14 lbs 3 oz (22%), 25.25 inches (55%)

Clothing size  3-6 months

Hair Light brown just like big sister but getting lighter by the day- pretty sure he will be blonde too!

Teeth Zero, but drooling and chewing a lot so we wonder if teeth may be coming in soon.  His big brother got one when he was 4 months so it is possible :) 

Sleeping  Most nights he will go to sleep at 7:30 pm or so, and either wake up (or sometimes I wake him) between 10-11:30 to eat. A little before 4 months he moved his next wake up from 5-6 am to 3 am or so. Now he usually gets up by  7 but sometimes as early as 6 am. Lately he has been spitting out the paci causing more frequent wakings but he has had a cold.

Eating  Miles continues to eat about every 2.5 hours during the day.   He is taking 3.5 oz bottles at home when mommy works from his nanny Lora. 

Movement  Miles loves to be active. He is very happy to play on his activity mat and can grab toys now.  He still doesn't love the bouncer but loves the rainforest jumper and is content there for a long time. He tolerates tummy time better and last month rolled front to back.  He has great head control and likes to look at everything going on around him.  

Milestones  Miles loves to sit up whenever he can. His head control has gotten very good this last month.  He loves to be carried facing outward. Last month he rolled over front to back. He stared sleeping most of the night in his own room this month! If he is waking up more frequently sometimes he comes back to our room but at 4 months we mostly transitioned him to his own room. 

Favorite toys/activities  He really likes the jumper and loves to listen to the music it plays.  He loves grabbing toys on the play mat and batting at them.  He still isn't a huge fan of the bouncer for more than 5-10 minutes.     

Dislikes   Like his older brother, Miles doesn’t like to be tired….or hungry.  The same thing is noted by his nanny, Lora.  He takes great naps once he is asleep but sometimes protests a bit.  

Words & sounds   Miles loves to babble. Sometimes he is observant, but he also likes to chat and will coo back and forth with you for quite a while.  He also has started to giggle!  

What we love  Watching Miles with his siblings. Their bond is just the sweetest. Also love snuggling him,  and rocking him to sleep. 

What we don’t love  On and off issues with nursing.  This waxes and wanes but he still remains exclusively breast fed. At times Mommy has to trick him into nursing while asleep. Hoping this becomes more seamless as he gets a bit bigger. 

What we’re looking forward to next month  More rolling over and more giggles.  We are also hoping after he recovers from this cold that sleep improves again! 

Miles- 3 months old

Age 3 months

Weight & Length Miles was 12 lbs 14 oz (36%) a week before he turned 3 months.  He was tall too! He is now 24.5 inches (80%)!

Clothing size 3-6 months, he already fills them out in length! 

Hair  His light brown hair is a little lighter, very much like his big sister Kate's was! 

Teeth Zero

Sleeping  Miles is a good sleeper. He continues to sleep in his crib from about 7:30-10:30 then I wake him for a dream feed and he will sleep 5-6 hours straight (in our room in the pack and play til around 5 am. He then sleeps a few more hours til 6:30-7:30 am.   He is great at taking naps in his crib (he has been a rockstar at sleeping flat from day one!).  He usually takes 30-60 minute naps, but the past few weeks has taken one 2 hour nap a day.  He sleeps in a hands up swaddle for naps- and halo velcro swaddle sleep sack overnight.   He still needs to nap after 1-2 hours of awake time (most often after 1 hour), and hasn’t showed signs of transitioning to only 3 naps/day yet. 

Eating  Miles continues to nurse every 2-2.5 hours or so during the daytime.  He is a very efficient eater, and also sometimes she will snack every 1-2 hours when I'm home.  Last month we realized Miles had  a tongue tie- which might have affected his latch/nursing and caused gassiness/discomfort so we traveled to GR to see Dr. Heaford, a peds ENT who agreed his tongue tie should be clipped. He did great with it and just needed a little tylenol for the next 24 hours and was back to normal.  Mommy just went back to work so the nanny is working with Miles on bottles. He is doing ok- but eats small amounts often which makes it hard for caregivers to predict.  He likes his fast flow Mam bottle but we keep trying to get him to use a Como Tomo or medela with slower flow! 

Movement   Miles still has not rolled over.  Both his siblings rolled over around 2 months!   According to Jackson, Miles has "great head control."  He likes tummy time not he poppy pillow but doesn't love it on a flat surface yet.  He likes to play with things that crinkle like baby paper, and a new taggy blanket he got for Easter. He still loves to lay on the play mat and kick and move like crazy. 

Milestones  Miles is so very smiley, and I think we are close to getting a laugh.  He is getting along well with his nanny Lora who watches him Monday, Wednesday and friday morning when Mommy is at work.  

Favorite toys/activities     Miles loves to bat at toys on the activity mat,  and really loves to focus on the black and white mobile.  He is starting to notice other toys too but doesn't grab things much.  He loves to put a crinkle taggy blanket in his mouth.  His favorite position is sitting up and he would love to be carried around and included on whatever we are doing.  He is a social little guy and protests if he is left alone! 

Dislikes   Miles is really unhappy when he is tired or hungry- just like his siblings! Other than that he is all smiles!  

Words & sounds   Miles loves to chat with us and Jackson and Kate love to get down on his level and watch him mimic their sounds.  

What we love  Learning who this little man is going to be....his personality already is so fun! He is definitely a fan of cuddling with mommy before bed (loves to lay on my chest)- one of my favorite times of day. 

What we don’t love  Fussiness around bedtime- hoping that ends soon!  Mommy can handle it with cluster feeding but it makes it harder for other caregivers to put him to bed if needed. 

What we’re looking forward to next month   We are hoping Miles will continue to get more active, and will be watching to see him roll over!
