Kate- 12 months old!

Age 12 months

Weight & Length Kate weighs 19 lbs 13 oz (50%) and is 30 inches tall (77%)

Clothing size Starting to wear many 12-18 month clothes.

Hair  Blonde

Teeth Six (top 4 still only partially in)

Sleeping  Kate goes to be most nights between 7:30 and 8 pm and sleeps until about 7-8 am.  Most nights she wakes around 5:00-6 am to nurse. Kate still takes 2 naps a day (10 and 2) about 75% of the time, but can make it through a day with only one nap as well. 

Eating  Kate nurses early in the morning around 5-6, and then takes bottles of breast milk 4x during the day. She takes bottles before AM nap, afternoon nap, around 4-5 pm and before bed. She tried her first cow’s milk mixed in a bottle this week just after her birthday and did fine with it.  She isn’t too keen on cold milk out of a sippy or regular cup yet.  Kate really enjoys feeding herself anything.  Her favorite foods are strawberries, cheese, hummus, PB & J, cottage cheese, crackers, and yogurt.  She is now signed up for school lunch and snacks but it is hit or miss what she eats.   She does eat pouches occasionally but is particular about which ones she likes and when.  She is very opinionated about some foods and is happy to throw things on the floor when she isn’t in the mood to eat them! 

Movement   She can stand independently for a few seconds and recently started walking! Kate took 4 steps in a row around 11.5 months.  She still can only do a few at a time when she is in the mood, but before we know it she will be walking everywhere! 

Milestones  First (few) steps!  She is consistently signing a few words more and all done on a daily basis.  

Favorite toys/activities     Kate really likes to read.  She also is starting to like to snuggle with her pink bunny lovie. She loves the spice rack drawer- and loves to pull out each spice jar and jars of sprinkles and shake them like toys.

Dislikes   Bumps and bruises- this girl loves to move and sometimes has a minor bump/bruise to prove to us how active she is :) Looking forward to a phase when she is accidentally hurting herself less.

Words & sounds   Kate loves to giggle.  She will say more, hi, bye bye and Mama/Dada.  She is interested in sign language and consistently signs all done and more.  

What we love   Kate and Jackson love to play together.  They are working on sharing but the back and forth between them even when they are teasing each other is hilarious! Kate has such an adventurous and happy personality.  She brings such joy to our family.  We can hardly believe she is already one! 

What we don’t love  Early morning waking.  Though, soon she won’t need me for those early morning nursing/snuggle sessions, so I should probably cherish it while it lasts.  

What we’re looking forward to next month   More walking and more talking!!!

Halloween 2015

Kate- 11 months old!

Age 11 months

Weight & Length Kate weighs around 19-20 lbs

Clothing size mostly 6-12 month clothes, but some 12-18 month clothes.

Teeth Six (only 2 are completely in- the other 4 (all on top) are partially in

Sleeping  Kate goes to be most nights around 8 pm and sleeps until about 7 or 8 am.  Most nights she wakes around 5:30 to nurse. Kate still takes 2 naps a day (10 and 2) but seems to occasionally have a hard time falling asleep in the morning so soon may be moving to only 1 nap daily. 

Eating  Kate nurses early in the morning and then takes bottles 4x during the day. She takes bottles before AM nap, afternoon nap, around 4-5 pm and before bed. Mommy is proud to say Kate will make it to 12 months with exclusive breast milk without needing formula, and then some.  Kate really enjoys feeding herself anything.  New favorite foods are cheerios, strawberries, cheese, hummus, cottage cheese and yogurt.  She is going to start eating school lunch and snacks full time this week.   She does eat pouches occasionally but wants to be able to squeeze them herself and hold onto them herself. 

Movement   She can stand independently for a few seconds here and there, and has taken a few single independent steps into our arms but i wouldn’t really call it walking yet as she is mostly stepping into a free fall into our arms :) I expect she will be walking soon!  

Milestones  Standing independently (very briefly).  Getting into everything- she loves to open any drawer/door and get into anything from dishes to toilet paper!!! Who needs toys! 

Favorite toys/activities     Kate really likes legos and is starting to show more interest in books. 

Dislikes   If we could just get rid of that last early AM feeding around 5 am we would be golden! Mama is ready to sleep through the night! 

Words & sounds   Kate continues to squeal and laugh. She is a fantastic waver (hello and goodbye) and has started to mimic sounds (mama, dada, hi, all done, bye bye).

What we love   Kate and Jackson interacting- sometimes they just sit together and play or laugh.  

What we don’t love  All of her movement and interest in walking makes her more prone to accidents! This month she had a face plant into a drawer when trying to pull it in and out- and got a black eye (just after 11 months!). Hoping she is able to have less accidents and falls soon! 

What we’re looking forward to next month   Walking and more talking!!!

Kate- 10 months old!

Age 10 months

Weight & Length Kate weighs 18+ lbs 

Clothing size 6-12 month clothes.

Hair  Getting a little blonder by the day

Teeth Three (well technically 2 but the 3rd one has broken through her gums and then 4th seems to be right behind it).

Sleeping  Kate goes to be most nights around 8 pm and sleeps until about 7 or 8 am.  Most nights she wakes around 3:30 to nurse. Kate takes 2 naps per day- one around 9 or 10 am and another around 1 or 2 pm. 

Eating  Kate nurses overnight and early in the morning (3:30, 6:30), but since her teeth came in she isn’t great at  nursing without biting during the day.  She takes bottles at around 9am, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 7 pm.   Mommy has started to wean how often she pumps at work thanks to a large stash of frozen breast milk (200 bags). Hoping to make it to 12 months with exclusive breast milk without needing formula, but we will see.  Kate really enjoys feeding herself anything.  She likes purees, but I think she prefers to feed herself. She recently tried blueberries and strawberries and liked them.  She is still experimenting with some textures. She loves yogurt. She isn’t a big fan of baby cereal/oatmeal. 

Movement   She started cruising very well around 9.5 months and also started walking with the baby walker a few days before she turned 10 months.   

Milestones  Cruising! She is getting closer to walking every day- I wouldn’t be surprised if she walks before 12 months.  She also loves to wave hello and goodbye! 

Favorite toys/activities     Kate really likes any toys- She doesn’t discriminate between Jackson’s trucks and her own stuffed animals. She is starting to show a lot of interest in reading. She is happy to chew on any toy you hand her.  

Dislikes   Night waking! I don’t want to make her cry it out if we don’t have to, and she does really well at bedtime, so hoping that she just realizes she doesn’t need to eat overnight soon! 

Words & sounds   Kate loves to chat with many sounds.  She is starting to pay attention when I try to teach her sign language (more, all done). 

What we love   Kate and Jackson interacting- sometimes they just sit together and both start screaming and laughing- it is hillarious! 

What we don’t love  I sound like a broken record- Night waking. Hoping this ends soon, either on her terms or with some sleep training.
